Sundial Growers was established in 2006, when founder Stan Swiatek bought a successfully family-owned cucumber farm west of Airdrie, Alberta. In 2007, Sundial underwent major renovations and converted their site to a cutting-edge growing facility, becoming one of Alberta’s first greenhouse producers to introduce grow lights and increasing production by 25% within the first year.
In 2012, Sundial Growers made a business decision to explore the opportunity to commercially produce medical marijuana for people with medical conditions. In 2013, Sundial applied to become a Licensed Producer on a commercial scale under Health Canada’s new Access to Cannabis for Medical Purpose Regulations (ACMPR).
In 2017, Sundial Growers became Alberta’s third License Producer to receive a cultivation license to produce medical marijuana and embraces a collaborative relationship within Canada’s new medical marijuana industry.
